Eric Fishbin: Hey Matt, thanks chatting with me. It was your second time competing in the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships (WJC), I’m curious how last year’s experience might have helped with this year’s tournament?

Colgate men’s hockey played their latest weekend series against University of Miami (Ohio) at the Class of 1965 Arena resulting in a tie and a loss. The Raiders faced off against the RedHawks on Friday, October 25 and Saturday, October 26. 

As the season approaches its close and the Colgate women’s soccer team remains on the outside of the Patriot League’s top six, the team was in desperate need of a win and the valuable three points that come with it against Loyola at home on October 26. 

After a tumultuous slate of out-of-conference games to open the season and a 48-7 romping by Football Bowl Subdivision team Air Force on August 31, the Colgate Raiders plunged into the Patriot League season on Saturday, October 5, ready to return to their title-winning ways from only one year ago. 

The Colgate men’s hockey team travelled to Lowell, Massachusetts for a two-game series against the No. 18 UMass-Lowell River Hawks. After starting the season 0-3-0, the Raiders looked to bounce back against the River Hawks and try to salvage something from the weekend road trip.

The Colgate Raiders have not lost to the Syracuse Orange since the 2014-15 season. That would be a surprising statement out of context, maybe for the basketball or football teams, but not for 2017-18 Division I National Coach of the Year Greg Fargo’s women’s hockey team. 

This past weekend, Colgate athletics struggled across the board. Overtime soccer losses, field hockey and football defeats in Patriot League play and an impressive four-set volleyball win were the key games of the weekend.

Colgate men’s hockey kicked off their season with a homecoming weekend opener against the Rochester Institue of Technology (RIT) Tigers this past Saturday, October 5. To start the game off, the men’s hockey program commemorated Ron Baker, a longtime Colgate employee and dedicated hockey supporter. 

This year for Family Weekend, which took place Friday and Saturday, September 20 and 21, the Colgate athletics teams were all able to take the field (or court) at home. The weekend featured the Patriot League openeing game for the men’s soccer team as well as a tailgate for the football team.

The Colgate women’s volleyball team had their final non-conference tournament of the season this weekend at the Carolina Classic on the campus of the University of North Carolina (UNC) in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
